The answer is A. 1977, 1978 and 1981. Here is the full story.

Bob Paisley's European Cup Treble with Liverpool

Bob Paisley is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history, and his record in the European Cup is a huge part of that legacy. During his nine years in charge at Anfield, he guided Liverpool to three European Cup triumphs — in 1977, 1978, and 1981 — making him the first manager ever to lift the trophy three times.

The 1977 Final: Rome

Paisley had inherited a formidable squad from his predecessor Bill Shankly, but he made it unmistakably his own. Liverpool's first European Cup victory came in Rome's Stadio Olimpico, fittingly in the city that would also witness their heartbreak years later. They beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3–1, with Terry McDermott, Tommy Smith, and Phil Neal on the scoresheet. It was a commanding performance that announced Liverpool as genuine European royalty.

The 1978 Final: Wembley

Defending the trophy the following year was an immense challenge, but Paisley's side rose to it. The 1978 final was played at Wembley, which gave it an extra layer of significance for British football. Liverpool faced Club Brugge and won 1–0, with Kenny Dalglish — signed from Celtic the previous summer for a British record fee — scoring the only goal. A cool, chipped finish from Dalglish sealed back-to-back European Cups and confirmed Paisley as a master of the big occasion.

The 1981 Final: Paris

After narrowly missing out in the intervening years, Liverpool returned to the European Cup final in 1981, this time in Paris. They faced Real Madrid at the Parc des Princes in what was a tense, tight affair. Alan Kennedy, the left-back, scored the only goal of the game with a driven finish in the second half — one of the most celebrated goals in the club's history. It gave Liverpool their third European Cup and Paisley his historic third as a manager.

The Man Behind the Medals

What makes Paisley's achievement even more remarkable is his quiet, understated character. He never sought the spotlight, rarely gave flamboyant interviews, and almost didn't take the job at all — he initially felt he wasn't cut out for management. Yet between 1974 and 1983, he won six First Division titles, three League Cups, one UEFA Cup, and those three European Cups. That's 13 major trophies in under a decade.

He remains the benchmark for Liverpool managers, and arguably for any club manager in British football history. The statue outside Anfield stands as a permanent reminder that sometimes the greatest leaders are the ones who let their results do all the talking.
